Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's hockey ties with Nor'Easters, 2-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm College and the University of New England played to a 2-2 tie on Friday night in New England Hockey Conference men's ice hockey action at the Sullivan Arena in Manchester, N.H. The Hawks move to 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the NEHC, while the Nor'Easters go to 4-4-2 and 1-4-1 in conference games.

UNE struck first 2:15 into the game on the power play as Brady Fleurent tipped home a blast from the point off the stick of Kyle Williams to give the Nor'Easters an early 1-0 lead. Tucker Ross also picked up an assist on the play.

The Hawks answered back nearly 12 minutes later on a power play of their own. On the man advantage, Saint Anselm worked the puck around and eventually it got trapped in the corner. Nick Leonard (Methuen, Mass.) worked the puck free and out to Bryan Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.). Sullivan found himself alone at the top of the face-off circle and fired a rocket that tucked inside the top right corner to tie the game at 1-1.

Leonard entered the scoring column at the 4:07 mark of the first period to put the Hawks on top 2-1. Sullivan won a face-off in the UNE zone and the puck came out to Tyler Estee (Bow, N.H.). Estee moved the puck along to Patrick Horrocks (Braintree, Mass.) and the freshman fired a shot on net that was turned away by UNE's Connor Maloney, but the rebound bounced into the air in front of the net. Leonard hit the puck out of mid-air and into the back of the goal for the 2-1 advantage.

The Hawks kept up the pressure in the second period, putting 13 shots on goal in the frame, but could not find an insurance goal.

UNE would take advantage in the third period as Armand Uomoleale took a loose puck through center ice and entered the Saint Anselm zone with speed. Uomoleale dropped the puck back to a charging Ian Rodden and the sophomore hit a one-timer that found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.

Both teams had chances in the rest of the third period and overtime, but neither team could pull ahead as time ran out on the game.

Saint Anselm held a 31-24 advantage in shots in the contest. Shane Joyce (Pembroke, Mass.) made 22 saves in the game and moved to 4-2-1 on the season.

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host the University of Southern Maine at 4:00 p.m. at Sullivan Arena. Saint Anselm will be honoring Tucker Mullin '13 in a pregame ceremony recognizing the alum for winning the 2013 BNY Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award.
