EVERETT, Mass. – Junior Peter Sikalis (Acton, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team to a 4-2 victory against Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday evening at Allied Veterans Rink.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Sikalis bookended the Hawks' scoring with his two goals.
- Senior Mark Meads (Middleton, Mass.) and junior CJ Blaszka (Brookfield, Conn.) also scored goals for the Hawks.
- Freshman goaltender Colin Soucy (No. Andover, Mass.) stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in his collegiate debut.
For the foes…
- Jonny Spada and Erik Andersson scored goals for Wentworth.
- Chris Sattler dished two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sikalis handed Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead exactly one minute into the contest after collecting a pass from junior Brendon Kerrigan (Boston, Mass.) and finding the back of the net.
- Blaszka doubled the Hawks' lead just 2:33 later with an unassisted strike that made it 2-0.
- Wentworth cut its deficit in half with just 56 seconds on the clock in the opening period when Spada netted a power-play goal with assists from Eric Eustace and Sattler.
- Meads re-instituted Saint Anselm's two-goal lead just 3:13 into the middle frame on feeds from junior Nick Leonard (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Tyler Estee (Bow, N.H.).
- Sikalis then gave Saint Anselm a commanding 4-1 lead 2:21 into the third period as senior Bryan Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.) connected with him on a pass to set up the goal.
- Anderson made it a two-goal game again with 4:59 remaining in regulation with assists from Sattler and Angus Johnston, but Wentworth would not get any closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Matt Jenkins made 31 saves for Wentworth.
- Saint Anselm outshot Wentworth, 35-25, including 13-8 in the final period.
- The Hawks were 0-for-6 on the power play, while Wentworth was 1-for-6.
NOTES
- Saint Anselm is off to its best start through six games (4-2-0) since the 2005-06 campaign when it started the season 4-1-1.
