Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Handled by Top-Ranked Penmen, 6-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The inaugural Queen City Cup men's soccer showdown went to the visitors Wednesday afternoon, as top-ranked Southern New Hampshire University handled Saint Anselm 6-0.

The Hawks started the game with a promising breakaway by junior Sean Smith (Hampstead, N.H.), but his shot from the right wing went wide left. Saint Anselm would take just five more shots in the game, putting four on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Bret Macko (Bolton, Mass.) picked up eight saves in the first half, splitting time with sophomore Stephen McLeod (Chelmsford, Mass.). McLeod took over in the second stanza, giving up a pair of scores with three saves.

The offensive potency of Southern New Hampshire (6-0, 3-0 Northeast-10) was just too much pressure for the Hawks, who spend much of the game in its own defensive third. Five different Penmen scored Wednesday, outshooting Saint Anselm 20-6.

Saint Anselm (1-4, 0-3 NE-10) will continue on with Northeast-10 Conference play, heading back on the road Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup at New Haven. The Hawks will return to Melucci Field Tuesday, hosting Saint Michael's in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
