Women's Soccer's Rust Nets Overtime Winner at Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – It was only a matter of time—more specifically, a matter of extra time—before the Saint Anselm women's soccer team was able to break through Wednesday afternoon at Bentley.

Off a cross from freshman forward Alexis Elowitch (Portland, Maine) from the right wing, sophomore forward Nicole Rust (Hooksett, N.H.) finished top-shelf from close range in the 96th minute to score the game-winner to beat the Falcons, 1-0.

With the important early-season win, the Hawks improve to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The overtime score was the first goal of the season for Rust, while Elowitch recorded her first assist and added her fifth point to her season tally.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) improved to 1-1 in the box, posting a shutout by saving all four Falcon shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) also saw action in goal in the second half, but the Hawks' defensive pressure held the Falcons to just four shots total and none on-goal.

Saint Anselm outshot Bentley (2-3, 0-2 NE-10) 17-10 overall and 9-4 in on-goal attempts. Junior midfielder Callie Millett (Lancaster, Mass.) sent three shots to the Bentley goalkeeper, while junior midfielder Rachel Gillies (Auburn, Mass.) and senior captain Meredith Martin (Victor, N.Y.) added two shots-on-goal apiece.

The Hawks return to the road for more NE-10 action Saturday, traveling to Springfield, Mass., to take on American International College in a 5:00 p.m. start.
