NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Host Southern Connecticut State scored a pair of second half goals—including a heartbreaker in the 85th minute—to knock off the Saint Anselm women's soccer team Saturday evening, 2-1.
Freshman Alexis Elowitch (Portland, Maine) got the Hawks off to a great start on the road, taking a cross from senior Alexa Lucci (Hope, R.I.) to score her sixth goal of the season right at the 7-minute mark.
Yet Saint Anselm (4-2-2, 2-2-2 NE-10) managed just four total shots and two on-goal for the entire game. Southern Connecticut State (6-3, 5-2) tallied 14 shots total and converted on two of the three on-goal attempts in the second half alone to surge to the comeback victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) tallied four saves in Saturday's loss, dropping her season record to 3-2-2 in goal.
The schedule will not get any easier this week, as Saint Anselm finishes up its arduous three-game NE-10 road trip Tuesday at Merrimack in a 7 p.m. start. Saturday, the Hawks welcome defending national champion and top-ranked Saint Rose in a 2 p.m. start at Melucci Field.
