Women's Soccer Shutout at Adelphi, 3-0

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Saint Anselm women's soccer team dropped its Northeast-10 matchup Saturday afternoon at Adelphi, falling to the host Panthers 3-0.

Adelphi (8-4-1, 5-4-1 NE-10) was dominant statistically, outshooting Saint Anselm 15-4 and won the corner kick battle 5-2. Junior Rachel Gillies (Auburn, Mass.) took two of the team's four shots and put the only one on-goal in the 23rd minute of the first half.

The Panthers scored their first goal in the 35th minute of the first half, then added another in the 73rd minute off a scramble in front of the box. A third goal off a penalty kick in the 83rd minute would seal the 3-0 home win.

The loss drops Saint Anselm (5-4-3, 3-4-3 NE-10) below .500 in the conference race for the first time since losing its season opener to New Haven, 3-2, on Sept. 13.

The Hawks will return to home sweet Melucci for the sixth chapter of the inaugural Queen City Cup, battling crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire in a 3 p.m. start Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks, still with a chance at an NE-10 Tournament bid, will play three straight home games before concluding the season at Le Moyne.
