Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pair of Quick Strikes Deal Men's Soccer Home Loss to #7 Southern Connecticut

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Two pairs of quick strikes doomed the Saint Anselm men's soccer team Saturday evening as the host Hawks fell, 4-1, to No. 7 Southern Connecticut State in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Melucci Field.

The Owls opened the scoring at the 41:25 mark in the second half on a cross from the left baseline that found the head of Southern Connecticut's 6-5 forward Brandyn Rowlinson. Just 34 seconds later, the Owls put away another header on a deep cross from just inside midfield to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the half.

Similarly, Southern Connecticut (11-1, 8-1 NE-10) scored a pair of goals early in the second half—this time just two minutes and 30 seconds apart—to extend the lead to 4-0 and essentially seal up the road victory.

Finally, Saint Anselm senior Ronan O'Callaghan (Weymouth, Mass.) snuck one past the SCSU goalkeeper in the 72nd minute from a deep assist from sophomore Jack Lynch (Weymouth, Mass.). It was O'Callaghan's first goal of the season.

Saint Anselm (3-9, 2-7 NE-10) returns to action Wednesday afternoon, hosting Merrimack College in a 3:30 p.m. start. The Hawks will play three of their final four games at home to close out the 2014 campaign.
