Volleyball Responds with 3-1 Win Over Purple Knights

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Three Hawks tallied double-digit kills en route to an important road victory Monday night, as the Saint Anselm volleyball team handled Saint Michael's, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17 in a Northeast-10 clash.

Freshman outside Kathryn Teets (Dix Hills, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 16 kills to lead Saint Anselm to its second league victory of the season Monday night. Sophomore right side Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) and freshman middle Amanda Williams (North Andover, Mass.) each added 11 kills in a very strong offensive performance by the road Hawks.

Offensive assertiveness aside, four Hawks also recorded double-digit digs, led by senior libero Melissa Jewett's (Newton, Mass.) team-high 28. Gladwill, senior Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) and senior setter Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) all added 10 digs to their account.

Steinwart put forth a stellar all-around effort, tallying a match-high 42 assists to go with those 10 digs as well as four kills, three service aces and pair of blocks.

Saint Anselm (8-9, 2-5 NE-10) came out the aggressor in the first set, running out to an early 14-6 lead. Yet Saint Michael's (5-8, 0-6 NE-10) used long service runs to eventually take a 20-19 lead and pull away to take the first set.

The Hawks would respond drastically in the second set, breaking a 17-17 tie with an 8-3 run to lock the match at one set apiece.

Saint Anselm continued that run into the final two sets, outhitting the Purple Knights .300 to .100 over the deciding final sets to snag the match victory.

Saint Anselm will continue its Northeast-10 slate Friday on the road, traveling to Adelphi for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Panthers. The Hawks will then have a quick turnaround with a late-season non-conference tri-match at Georgian Court Saturday.
