GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Junior outside Lauren Oxley (Bristow, Va.) recorded a team-high seven kills but the Saint Anselm volleyball team suffered a Northeast-10 Conference setback Friday night at Adelphi, falling 25-16, 25-12, 25-11.
Freshman Amanda Williams (North Andover, Mass.) added six kills and sophomore right side Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) added five kills on a night in which the Hawks tallied 24 kills and 27 errors for a negative .033 hitting percentage.
Adelphi (10-9, 7-0 NE-10) tallied just five total hitting errors as a team for a blisteringly efficient .385 attack percentage Friday night. The Panthers also out-dug Saint Anselm 36-31 and outblocked the Hawks 8-0.
Senior setter Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) tallied 21 assists, while senior libero Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) notched eight digs.
Saint Anselm (8-10, 2-6 NE-10) will need a short memory in its next matchup, traveling from Long Island to nearby Lakewood, N.J., for a non-conference mid-season weekend tri-match. The Hawks will battle Felician College at 1 p.m. Saturday before taking on host Georgian Court at 3 p.m.
