MANCHESTER, N.H. – A season-high 12 kills from senior Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.) and a match-high 26 digs from senior libero Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) wasn't enough to overcome Franklin Pierce Friday night in Stoutenburgh Gym, as the Ravens proved the better bird with a 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20 victory.
The loss drops Saint Anselm to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Franklin Pierce, meanwhile, improves to 10-7 and 3-2 in league contests.
The Hawks struggled all night offensively, tallying 40 errors en route to a .011 attack percentage overall. In the first two sets alone, Saint Anselm hit -.100 as a team with 17 kills and 23 errors.
Freshman outside Kathryn Teets (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added 10 kills for the Hawks, while sophomore right side Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) added nine kills and a season-high 16 digs—11 of which coming in the third set alone.
Senior setter Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) chipped in 34 assists and three service aces and sophomore middle Micaela Donatio (North Andover, Mass.) tallied a team-high four blocks with one solo stuff.
Saint Anselm will look to regroup with a quick turnaround this weekend, playing a Monday evening matchup at Saint Michael's College. First Serve in Colchester, Vt., is scheduled for 7 p.m.
