WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Kendra Bonczar (Milford, N.H.) scored 34:20 into the first half of the game to lift the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team over Saint Michael's College, 1-0, in the consolation round of the Inaugural Catholic Cup.
With the win, the Hawks jump to 1-0-1 on the young season, while Saint Michael's will fall to 0-2.
Bonczar, who scored the goal unassisted in the 35th minute, beat Saint Michael's goalkeeper Kaylee Sullivan to lift the Hawks to victory.
Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) made three saves, while Sullivan made four. Saint Anselm held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Hawks return to the field Friday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. when they open their home slate against Mercy College at Melucci Field.
