Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mercy Squeaks Past Women's Soccer, 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Hawks had chances to capitalize and dominated play most of the game, but Danielle Deeb scored 4:23 into the overtime period, as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to Mercy College, 1-0, in overtime Friday afternoon at Melucci Field.

With the loss, the Hawks dip to 1-1-1, while the Mavericks improve to a perfect 4-0-0.

Deeb beat Saint Anselm junior goalie Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) in the 95th minute, when she first blocked a Primera clear attempt and then ran past Primera and walked the ball into the empty net for the win.

The Hawks had a pair of chances in regulation, however, to try and gain the first strike. With 26 minutes remaining, junior Alexa Lucci (Hope, R.I.) received a through ball from the defense and then sent a blast at the net that was saved by Mercy goalkeeper Nicole Augustine.

With 3:30 left to play, junior Abby Rumph (Fair Haven, N.J.) sent a header wide to the left after she was served a ball off a direct kick by sophomore Rachel Gillies (Auburn, Mass.).

The Hawks saw their final chance a minute into the overtime frame, when freshman Nicole Rust (Hooksett, N.H.) forced Augustine to make a diving save with her shot to the right side of the net.

Primera and Augustine each made four saves, while the Hawks held a 15-13 advantage in shots on goal.

The Hawks return to the field Sunday, Sept. 15 as they travel to New Haven to play in a 1 p.m. tilt.
