Women's Soccer Falls Short Against New Haven, 2-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team was handed a 2-0 loss on the road by the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon in both teams' conference openers at Kayo Field.

The Hawks dip to 1-2-1 overall, including 0-1-0 in Northeast-10 play, while the Chargers remain undefeated at 3-0-1, 1-0-0 NE-10.

New Haven jumped on the board just 3:34 into the contest when Amber Simms found the back of the net by beating sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.).

It remained a 1-0 game through the first half and into the second until Marisa Garcia potted the Chargers' second goal of the game 12:57 into the stanza to give the hosts some insurance.

Primera stopped two shots playing in the first half, while freshman Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) made six stops over the course of the second half. New Haven goalkeeper Natasha Purchla made four saves for the shutout.

New Haven held slight advantages over Saint Anselm in both shots (17-15) and corner kicks (3-2). Senior Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.) led the Hawks with two shots on goal.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. when they play host to Bentley University at Melucci Field.
