EASTON, Mass. – Senior Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made five saves in net for Saint Anselm, but Assumption's Ethan Morrow scored two goals en route to the Greyhound's 3-0 win over the Hawks, in the title game of the Inaugural Catholic Cup on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Hawks dip to 1-1 on the young season, while Assumption propels to 2-0.
Josh Dutilley was first to strike for the Greyhounds just 9:31 into the game, creating a 1-0 lead for Assumption. Morrow tallied his first goal at 28:57 doubling the lead, 2-0. Morrow then solidified the win in the 58th minute when he picked up a pass from Matt Flynn and beat Kotsopoulos, making it a 3-0 game.
Assumption goalie Dana King was only called upon for one save. The Hawks were outshot 18-7.
Sophomores Sean Smith (Hampstead, N.H.) and Ian Theriault (Merrimack, N.H.) as well as freshman Jack Lynch (Weymouth Mass.) were named to the Catholic Cup All-Tournament Team.
The Hawks return to the field Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. when they open their 2013 home slate in a rematch with Assumption at Melucci Field.
