Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Lynn, Bentley to Close Volley'Fall' Tourney

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kylie Kozlowski (Quincy, Mass.) and junior Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) each added seven kills, but that wasn't enough as the Saint Anselm College volleyball team fell to Lynn University, 3-0 in its 11 a.m. match. Junior Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.) led the Hawks in match two against Bentley University with 10 kills, but the Hawks fell, 3-0, to round out play in The Saint Anselm College Volley'Fall' Tournament in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

With the pair of losses, Saint Anselm will fall to 4-6 overall, while Lynn improves to 10-2 and Bentley jumps to 6-4.

Set scores in game one were 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21.

Sophomore Lauren Oxley (Bristow, Va.), senior Vivian Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill.) and junior Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) each recorded three kills in the first match, while Ouellet and freshman Catherine Morgan (Farmington Hills, Mich.) accumulated two apiece.

In the second set, McNabb made a run when she ripped off three back-to-back service aces and then Kozlowski did the same in the third set as she gave the Hawks to a 4-1 lead heading into the remainder of the match.

Steinwart, who earned herself a spot on the All-Tournament team, was responsible for 19 assists and 11 digs, while junior Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) led the team with 12 digs.

In the second game of the day versus the Falcons of Bentley College, the Hawks made several surges, but couldn't string points together to close out a set. Set scores of game two ended 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18.

Just behind Ouellet was senior Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.), who recorded nine kills and five digs. Freshman Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) finished third on the team in kills with seven, in addition to her four digs.

Steinwart aided in the effort of game two with 25 assists, a pair of kills and eight digs. Jewett was the only Hawk to reach double digits in digs with 11.

The Hawks return to the court Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Stonehill College.
