Women's Soccer Outlasted By #8 AIC, 3-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sonia Basma scored a pair of goals to lead the eighth-ranked American International Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 win over the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon for Northeast-10 women's soccer action at Melucci Field.

The Hawks will drop to 2-3-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the NE-10 conference, while American International will remain unbeaten with a 5-0-0 record, 3-0-0 in conference play.

Basma scored her first 12:52 into play as she sent a blast from 25 yards out straight into the upper corner of the net, past Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.).

More than forty minutes passed before the Yellow Jackets struck again for the 2-0 lead at 54:39. Caroline Boyce initiated the play as she crossed the ball from right to left, finding Basma, who gave two touches to the ball and sent it into the bottom corner of the net.

The 3-0 nod came from Jessica Margaretta in the 66th minute, as she headed in the ball off a Boyce corner kick.

In addition to Primera's two saves, freshman Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) made four. American International goalkeeper Sam Tabak made just one to preserve the shutout. American International held a 15-8 advantage in shots as well as a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Hawks return to the field Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m. when they travel to Pace University.
