Stonehill's 2OT Goal Clips Men's Soccer, 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Craig Moreau scored in the 106th minute to lift Stonehill to victory over the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team, Tuesday afternoon on Melucci Field for Northeast-10 men's soccer action.

With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 2-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Skyhawks bump to a 3-2-0 overall record, 2-0-0 in conference play.

Kevin Gilmartin was credited with the assist on the game-winning goal as he initiated the play by serving the ball to Moreau at the top-left of the box. Moreau ran on the ball, drew out Saint Anselm goalie Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and lobbed the ball over his head for the win.

The Hawks had a few chances in regulation, but were unable to sneak the ball past Stonehill keeper Adam Colella. Saint Anselm's first chance came with 40:30 left to play in the second half when senior Matthew McQueeney (Hooksett, N.H.) passed the ball up the field to senior Brian Ayers (North Potomac, Md.), who shot the ball high following his one-on-one with Colella.

The Skyhawks had a chance for the 1-0 strike in the 61st minute when Cam McDonough sped away on a fast break, but his attempt was broken up by junior Chad Dakin (Wilbraham, Mass.).

With 16:55 remaining, Saint Anselm had their best look when senior Bruno Dasilva (Rockland, Md.) took a direct kick that found its way to the feet of sophomore Ian Theriault (Merrimack, N.H.), who shot the ball on net forcing Colella to make the save.

Kotsopoulos made five saves, while Colella made six. Saint Anselm showed their dominance on the field by holding a 14-8 advantage in shots on goal.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Le Moyne for a 12 p.m. matchup.
