Baseball Suffers 13-1 Loss Against Saint Michael's

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Dan Lagasse (Londonderry, N.H.) hit his second home run of the season, but the Saint Anselm College baseball team was handed a 13-1 loss by Saint Michael's College on Wednesday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

The Hawks drop to 16-24-1 on the season, including 11-13 in Northeast-10 play and 5-11 in the Northeast Division. The Purple Knights are now 12-23, 8-15, 3-11 NE, NE-10 NE.

Saint Michael's jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a three-run home run to center off the bat of Jacob Begnoche. The Purple Knights added two more in the fifth before Lagasse's dinger to center put the Hawks on the board at 5-1.

The Purple Knights broke it open with a five-run seventh inning that was highlighted by George Buteau's two-run homer to left-center. Begnoche stroked another home run in the eighth to make it 11-1. Saint Mike's then tacked on another pair in the ninth to close the scoring.

Senior James Farrington (West Milford, N.J.) fell to 2-8 as he allowed five runs on eight hits, while striking out five and walking a pair. Freshman Clayton Welch (Manchester, N.H.) was charged with four runs – three earned – on four hits and struck out a batter in 1.1 innings. Classmate Tyler Buck (Franklin, Mass.) gave up two runs – one earned – on three hits and a walk in 2.0 innings, while fellow freshman Terrence Walsh (Milton, Mass.) relinquished two runs on three hits, while striking out one and walking one in an inning of work.

Junior Kyle Grumoli (South Hadley, Mass.) was 2-for-4, while sophomore Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I.) and freshman Allan McQuarrie (Salem, N.H.) were each 1-for-3. Lagasse (RBI, R) and senior Robert Kelly (Aurora, Colo.) went 1-for-4.

Curt Echo (2-3) tossed a complete game for the Purple Knights, allowing one run on six hits and three walks.
