MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I.) drove in a pair of runs to extend his Northeast-10 RBI lead, but the Saint Anselm College baseball team fell to Rollins College, 16-2, Friday afternoon at Sullivan Park.
The Hawks drop to 16-25-1 on the season, while the Tars improve to 22-18-1.
After Rollins went up, 1-0, in the second, it crafted a four-run third to open the lead to 5-0 against sophomore Ryan Cosmopulos (Seekonk, Mass.). The Tars added another in the fourth and used a three-run homer from Brian Lattanzi as part of a five-run fifth that widened the gap to 11-0.
Saint Anselm got on the board in the sixth when Hayden was plunked with the bases packed. Doubles from Johnny Brill and Matt Hendricks accounted for three runs in Rollins' four-run seventh that made it 15-2. The Hawks then answered the Tars' single run in the eighth with one in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly to left by Hayden.
Cosmopulos (2-3) allowed six runs on five hits, while walking four and striking out a pair in 3.0 innings. Freshman Tyler Buck (Franklin, Mass.) gave up five runs – just one earned – on three hits, while walking two and striking out two in 2.0 innings. Classmate Clayton Welch (Manchester, N.H.) tossed 2.0 innings and was charged with four runs – three earned – on five hits and walked one and struck out one. Fellow freshman Seve Llanio (Glen Arm, Md.) gave up a run on a pair of walks and struck out a batter in 1.0 inning. Freshman Terrence Walsh (Milton, Mass.) pitched a perfect ninth.
