MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) had a career day with a career second-best in kills with nine, a match-high 48 assists and an all-time high in digs with 22. She hit for a team-best .389 and chipped in one service ace as the Saint Anselm College volleyball team played to 3-2 victory over Pace University and the Hawks held their "Dig-Pink" initiative.
With the win, Saint Anselm nudges up to 7-13 overall and 2-5 in the league, as Pace drops to 4-20 overall with a 0-8 mark in the conference.
Saint Anselm took the first set, 25-19, before the Setters came back to capture the second, 25-12. The Hawks walked away with the third, 25-20 and then dropped the fourth 25-22. In the final set, the game remained close until a trio of Hawk kills, including two from junior Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) broke the set open at 10-6. Play went back-and-forth until the Setters came back to tie it at 14-14. A kill each from junior Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.) and sophomore Lauren Oxley (Bristow, Va.) ended the game and the match, 16-14 and 3-2.
Just one kill short of a triple-double, Steinwart also chipped in three blocks, and notched four of her nine kills in the fourth set.
Senior Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.) continued her streak of double figures with a team-high 14 kills and 14 digs. Senior Vivian Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill.) contributed 11 kills, while McNabb recorded 13 – second highest of the team.
Junior libero Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) achieved a new career-high with 32 digs and a pair of service aces. Junior Jenny Doder (St. Louis, Mo.) was the fourth Hawk to hit double-digit digs as she locked up 12. Freshman CC Chrisom (Dover, N.H.) reached the nine dig mark.
