MANCHESTER, N.H. - Senior Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.) tallied her second straight double-double with 12 kills and 27 digs and senior Vivian Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill.) nailed down 10 kills as the Saint Anselm College volleyball team took down Saint Michael's College, 3-2, Tuesday afternoon for Northeast-10 volleyball action.
The Hawks improve to 6-12 overall and gain their first conference victory to stand at 1-4 in the league, while the Purple Knights drop to a 10-6 record with a 2-4 stance in the NE-10.
The Purple Knights took the first set, 25-15, before Saint Anselm rallied back to take the second 25-14. The two teams would swap sets three and four as Saint Michael's took the third 25-15 and the Hawks grabbed the fourth 26-24. The fifth set was taken by Saint Anselm, 15-5, as the Hawks hit .474 as a team with Fitzgerald, junior Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and freshman Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) each adding three kills in the final set to seal the deal.
Junior Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.), McNabb and Gladwill each recorded eight kills in total as McNabb added in six digs to her name. Ouellet led the team with four blocks.
On the defensive side, the team accumulated 98 digs in total with junior Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) tying Gustavson with a team-high 27. Along with two kills, junior Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) passed out a match-high 42 assists and completed her set of double figures with 12 digs.
Freshman Catherine Morgan (Farmington Hills, Mich.) aided in the effort with seven digs and a pair of kills.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. when they play host to Adelphi University. Oct. 26 the Hawks will play host to Pace at 1 p.m. and will host their "Dig Pink" initiative through the Side-Out Foundation.
