FREDONIA, N.Y. – Tucker Mullin (Andover, Mass.), Liam McKillop (New York, N.Y.) and Joe Tebano (Glastonbury, Conn.) each scored a goal in the third period of play to lift the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team to a 4-2 win over Fredonia State College on Friday evening in non-conference action at Steele Hall Ice Arena.
With the victory, the Hawks win their fifth straight and improve to 7-2-1, while the Blue Devils drop to 5-9-0 for the 2012-13 campaign.
Fredonia State was first to score at 16:04 into the first stanza when Chad Bennett picked up a pass from Stephen Castriota and slid the puck past Saint Anselm goaltender Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.).
Johnny Daniels (Andover, Mass.) netted the equalizer at 10:49 of the second frame as he beat Blue Devil goalie Tyler Palmerton after taking two strides into a one-on-one. Daniels picked up his fifth goal of the season and first short-handed goal on the play.
Fredonia answered back at 17:28 of the same stanza as Chris Jung notched his first collegiate goal on a feed from Mat Hehr.
Just 1:22 into the final period, it was Mullin who sparked the Hawk offense for a three-goal rally to come away with the win. Mullin's tally tied the game at two, before McKillop sunk the game-winning goal at 6:23. McKillop intercepted a pass, skated down into the Blue Devil zone and fired a shot from the right side past Palmerton.
The final dagger came from Tebano, who potted a short-handed and empty-net goal with just one second remaining in the game.
Dries made 19 saves to earn his fourth win of the season, while Palmerton stopped 29 shots.
The Hawks held a 33-21 advantage in shots on goal.
The Hawks return to action Jan. 5 when they continue their two-game stint in Upstate New York and take on Buffalo State at 3:30 p.m. Stay up-to-date with the latest news, including game previews and recaps, directly from the Saint Anselm College athletic department by liking us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/STAHawks) and following us on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/STAHawks).
