Men's Hockey Skates to 2-2 Overtime Deadlock with Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y.Tim King (Weymouth, Mass.) and Tucker Mullin (Andover, Mass.) each scored a goal for the Hawks in regulation as the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 overtime result with Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.

The Hawks are dished their second tie of the season and move to 7-2-2, while the Bengals now stand at 6-7-2 for their 2012-13 campaign.

After one period of scoreless play, each team was 0-1 on extra-skater opportunities, while Saint Anselm held a 15-12 advantage in shots on goal.

Buffalo jumped on the board to snap the scoreless gridlock when Trevor McKinney beat Saint Anselm goalieRobert Kang (Glen Rock, N.J.) at 2:57 of the second period.

King netted the equalizer just one minute and 30 seconds later when he connected with a feed from Mike Richard (Derry, N.H.). Evan Gogonis (Northboro, Mass.) also picked up an assist on the play.

Heading into the final frame, the game was tied at one before Nick Melligan gave the Bengals their second lead of the game at 11:28.

The Hawks would answer for a second time when Mullin beat Buffalo State netminder Kevin Carr to make it a 2-2 game.

Saint Anselm held a 4-1 edge in shots during the extra period, but neither team was able to get the puck past their respective net minder.

Kang made 35 saves, while Carr stopped 46 of 48 shots on goal. The Hawks were 1-6 on power-play opportunities, while the Bengals were 1-5 with the extra skater.

The Hawks return to action Friday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. when they continue their five-game road stint and travel to take on the University of New England. The next home game for the Hawks is Friday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. when they play host UMass Boston at Thomas F. Sullivan Arena.
