The Saint Anselm College ice hockey programs are asking for your help to combat breast cancer in a two-day event beginning this Friday, Jan. 25 at the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena and concluding Saturday, Jan. 26.  Both the men's and women's ice hockey teams will be raising awareness and funds to help the fight against breast cancer with all proceeds benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrfcure.org).

Did you know, in her lifetime, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and there are over 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the United States? This year alone, over 200,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. Your support at these upcoming games will not only help to raise awareness, but also funds, while helping a worthy cause that has undoubtedly affected someone in all of our lives.

The women's ice hockey players will don pink jerseys, at each of their two games on Friday and Saturday and the men's ice hockey players will utilize pink accents in their game-day apparel and equipment.

During the intermission in Friday's games, fans are able to participate in a special Chuck-A-Puck contest. Pucks are available to purchase for $1 each or five pucks for $3. Fans will throw specially-numbered pucks onto the ice surface from their seats and the person that throws their foam puck closest to the target at center ice will take home a prize of either a snowboard or an iPad docking sound system.

Throughout the weekend, during the intermission there will also be a 30 Seconds To Win It slap shot contest with the chance to win a ski jacket.

Players from both squads will be participating in the fundraising effort on campus in the week leading up to the games. Special t-shirts will be sold at tables located in Davison Hall on Thursday and Friday (11 a.m.-1 p.m. & 4 p.m.-7 p.m.), as well as at the games, for $10 apiece. T-shirts are black with a Hawk Hockey design (pictured). Last season, the combined efforts of both teams yielded over $3,000 in donations toward the cause.

Pink ribbons will be sold for $1 throughout the week and may be purchased from any men's or women's ice hockey player. The ribbons will be hung in the rink on game day for all to see. Those who purchase a ribbon are encouraged to share a personal message or place the ribbon in honor of someone affected by cancer.

Special pink programs will also be available for purchase prior to the game with proceeds directly benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

On the ice, the women's ice hockey team will face off against the Valiants of Manhattanville College in a 4 p.m. contest Friday, Jan. 25. The men's ice hockey program will be opposing the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College, in a 7 p.m. tilt.

Saturday's schedule of games opens at 1 p.m. with the women's ice hockey team taking on the Bison of Nichols College on Saturday, Jan. 26. The final game of our Pink in the Rink event will pit the men's ice hockey team against the Spartans of Castleton State College with a 4 p.m. puck drop.

Admission to the event is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens. Admission is good for both the men's and women's game. Saint Anselm students will be let in for free with a valid Saint Anselm College ID. Any non-Saint Anselm student with a college ID will be charged $1.

Donations will be accepted at the door for each of the four games. For more information or to purchase a pink ribbon, please contact Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey player Courtney Winters.
