MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College volleyball team gave up matches to Assumption College and Merrimack College with match scores of 3-2 and 3-1, respectively, Sunday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium as part of Saint Anselm's tri-match.
The Hawks drop to 5-7 on the season, while the Greyhounds move to 8-11 and the Warriors improve to 7-6.
In the morning's first match against Assumption, the Greyhounds won the first set 25-19, before the Hawks came back to earn the second, 25-21. Assumption would then take the next two sets and the match with set scores of 25-22 and 15-4.
Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) led the Hawks with 17 kills and eight digs. Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) chipped in with a season-high 23 digs and three assists. Vivian Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill.) added eight kills and three digs to her credit.
Natalie Steinwart (Aurora Ill.) dished 34 assists over four sets, while Jenny Doder (St. Louis, Mo.) contributed 10 digs.
The Hawks also dropped a 3-1 decision to Merrimack College with set scores of 25-17, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-15.
Morgan du Bray (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Hawks with a career-high 34 assists and nine digs. Lauren Oxley (Gainesville, Va.) contributed six kills for a .211 hitting percentage.
Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) added 14 digs with Tereschuk chipping in 10. Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.) brought seven kills and nine digs to the table. Fitzgerald also added seven kills and three digs.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday Oct. 2 as they travel to Bentley University at 7 p.m. The next home game for Saint Anselm is Oct. 6 when it plays host to UMass Lowell.
