Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Grounded by Pace, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) scored a goal early in the game, but that would not be enough as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to Pace University, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium for Northeast-10 women's soccer action.

The Hawks fall to a 1-5-1 record for the 2012 campaign and a 0-4-1 mark in NE-10 play, while the Setters improve to a 3-2-3 overall record and a 3-1-1 record in conference play.

Saint Anselm struck first at 10:07 when Maura Kelly (Weymouth, Mass.) sent a pass from the top of the box to Oldfield, on the right, who fired the ball into the right side of the net past Pace goalkeeper Courtany Hagen.

The Setters would then tie the game, 1-1, at 57:49 when Amanda Mundorf dished the ball into the box, finding Brittany Trymbulak, who entered into a one on one with Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) and beat her to the right side.

Pace took the lead, 2-1, in the 64th minute, when Kayla Surrusco, on the left side of the box, sent the ball into the middle to Jillian Ferro, who headed the ball over the top of Primera's reach.

The Hawks had a chance to tie late in the game at 77:30 when Alexa Lucci (Hope, R.I.) bombed a kick through the box, past multiple Pace defenders, only to have the ball hit the crossbar.

Saint Anselm had another chance to score on a Lucci direct kick at 78:47. Lucci sent the ball into the box, when it ultimately found Oldfield, on the right, who headed the ball into the bottom of the far post.

A final chance to tie came from an Oldfield direct kick that was sent over the head of Hagen and ricocheted off the crossbar and out of play.

Despite the loss, the Hawks outshot the Setters 25-12, including 12-4 in the second stanza.

Primera made five saves on the day, while Hagen made 10.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. when they hit the road to take on Saint Michael's College.
