MANCHESTER, N.H. – Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) earned a double-double with 15 kills and 19 digs to lead the Saint Anselm College volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Merrimack College on Thursday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-3 on the young season, while the Warriors drop to 1-5. 

In the first set, the Warriors had no more than a four-point lead until a Corinne Gosselin kill forced the score to 13-9. The Hawks then went on a 5-1 run tying the score at 14 thanks to a Vivian Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill.) kill and back-to-back aces. With the score at 24-20 in favor of the Hawks, Saint Anselm went on a 6-3 run to take the first set 27-25.

The Hawks jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set but that wouldn't be enough as Merrimack went on an 8-2 run at the close of the set to seal the deal 25-20.

Saint Anselm went on to take the following two sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-20.

Setter Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) had 40 assists on the day, while senior Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) added 22 digs to her credit. Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.) just missed a double-double of her own posting 13 kills and nine digs.

For the Warriors, Stephanie Sheehan led the way with 15 kills and 16 digs.
