FLUSHING, N.Y. – Powered by Bruno Dasilva (Rockland, Mass.) and his two penalty kick goals, the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie against Queens (N.Y) College on Thursday afternoon.
The Hawks now stand at 1-3-1 on the young season, as the Knights move to 2-1-1 for their 2012 campaign.
Queens jumped out to an early lead in the seventh minute on a penalty kick goal from Danny Stoker. The Knights would then increase their lead to two when Stoker gave a feed to Eric Clermont, who beat Saint Anselm goalkeeper Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) at 17:32 of the first half.
The Hawks would then have their first chance to score when they were awarded a penalty kick. Dasilva buried his shot into the back of the net past Queens keeper Sean Geoghegan to make the score 2-1.
Dasilva netted another penalty kick with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game at two.
In the pair of overtime periods, Queens outshot Saint Anselm, 8-2, but were unable to put any past Moriarty, who made 10 saves on the day, including three in overtime. Geoghegan added two saves to his credit.
The Knights outshot the Hawks by a margin of 26-7.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 15 as they play host to Le Moyne in a noon tilt on Melucci Field.
