BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) made four saves, but the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon at Pace Field in its season opener.
With the loss, the Hawks begin the season 0-1-0, while the Knights stand at 1-0-0.
After no scoring action for 65 minutes, Queens broke through as Sarah Boucher took a feed from Lorena Russi and beat Primera to make the score 1-0.
Boucher returned the favor, setting up Russi with nine seconds left, as the Knights sealed the win.
Queens goalkeeper Allison Breakey stopped eight shots to earn the shutout.
The Hawks outshot Queens by a margin of 13-9, including 11-6 in the second half.
The Hawks return to action Sunday, Sept. 2 as they play game two in the Pace Tournament with a 1 p.m. tilt against Mercy College.
