LUDLOW, Mass. – Junior Alexandra Lawrence (N. Scituate, R.I.) and freshman April Regan (Berlin, Conn.) only dropped a single set all day as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team shut out American International College, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at Ludlow Tennis Club.
The Hawks improve to 4-3 on the season and in Northeast-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-7, 0-6 NE-10.
Lawrence took care of Taila de Souza, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles, while Regan also earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Edna Olwo in No. 4 singles. Lawrence teamed up with sophomore Katherine Morrissey (Sturbridge, Mass.) to earn an 8-1 win against de Souza and Martine Turgeon in No. 1 doubles, while Regan combined with sophomore Christine Woods (Wilmington, Mass.) to defeat Jessica Hall and Jasmine Byrd, 8-1, in No. 2 doubles.
Morrissey downed Turgeon, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 2 singles, while Woods beat Hall, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 5 singles.
Junior Rachel Pedro (Weymouth, Mass.) posted a 6-1, 6-0, victory against Byrd in No. 3 singles action, while freshman Kate Martin (Hudson, N.H.) won by default in the No. 6 singles spot. Pedro and Martin also won their No. 3 doubles match by default.
The Hawks return to action Sunday, April 1 at noon when they head south to take on the University of New Haven.
