Men's Soccer Outlasts Assumption in Double Overtime, 1-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – Brian Ayers (North Potomac, Md.) scored the game-winning goal in double overtime as the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team topped Assumption College, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon at Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Hawks now stand at 5-6-1 overall and improve to 5-3-0 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the Greyhounds drop to 3-5-1 and 2-4-1 in league play.

Saint Anselm scored 1:15 into the second overtime frame when Cliff Parker (Cromwell, Conn.) dished a feed to Ayers, on the left, who sent the ball curling into the right side of the net past Assumption goalkeeper Dana King.

With the goal, Ayers registered his fifth point of the season and his second consecutive game-winning goal for the Hawks.

Saint Anselm goalkeeper Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) made four saves to earn the shutout, while King made just two.

Assumption held the 14-6 advantage in shots, with each team only taking one apiece in overtime.

The Hawks return to action Saturday Oct. 13 when they travel to UMass Lowell in a 1 p.m. tilt.
