Men's Soccer Falls to UMass Lowell, 4-1

LOWELL, MASS.Bruno Dasilva (Rockland, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Hawks as the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the University of Massachusetts Lowell Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field.

The Hawks now stand at 5-7-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the River Hawks improve to 11-1-1 overall and stand at a perfect 10-0-0 in league play.

UMass Lowell broke through just under four minutes into the game when Bruno Bonicontro, on a corner play, sent the ball into the box, finding Kyle Garvan, who headed the ball into net past Saint Anselm goalkeeper Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.).

The River Hawks increased their lead to two at 48:58 when Kyle Garvan threw in the ball to Daniel Galvin, who flicked it over to Kevin Zapata as he netted it into the goal, further increasing the deficit.

UMass Lowell struck for a third time at 62:12 when Bonicontro dished his second assist of the night to Galvin, who sent the ball to the back of the net, registering his third point of the contest.

Saint Anselm jumped on the board at 78:22, when Ben Mack (Melrose, Mass.) sent a feed to Dasilva, who snuck the ball past UMass Lowell goalkeeper Chris Maierle to make it a 3-1 game. Mack registered his first collegiate point on the play.

The River Hawks answered just 14 seconds later when Eric DeSantis dished a pass to Majid Saeed, who scored to extend the River Hawk lead to three at 4-1.

Moriarty made two saves and Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) stopped one shot, while Maierle made three saves.

UMass Lowell held a 17-10 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
