Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Double-Overtime Draw with #1 Saint Rose

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.) scored at 54:36 to help the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team to a 1-1 tie with No. 1-ranked The College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon on Melucci Field.

With the tie, Saint Anselm now stands at 2-6-3 overall and 1-5-3 in the Northeast-10 conference, while Saint Rose moves to a near-perfect 8-1-2 and 6-1-2 in conference play.

Saint Anselm jumped on the board first with 32:36 left in the match, as Flaherty served the ball from the left side of the box and it bounced off Saint Rose's La'Quilla Upton and into the right side of the net.

Saint Rose tied things up at one off a set piece from just inside mid-field in the 69th minute. Carmelina Puopolo dropped the ball off to her right for Sydney Bond, who blasted a shot into the top left corner of the net.

The Golden Knights had a chance to score in the first overtime frame when Puopolo shot the ball toward the open net, but Abby Rumph (Fair Haven, N.J.), earning a defensive safe, jumped to head the ball out of the goalmouth.

Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) made 12 saves, including three in overtime, while Saint Rose goalkeeper Jessica Gerski stopped three shots.

Saint Rose held a 19-10 advantage in shots, while corner kicks were tied up at four.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they play host to Franklin Pierce in a 4 p.m. tilt at Melucci Field.
