MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Callie Millet (Lancaster, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lift the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team over Franklin Pierce University, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Melucci Field.
With the win, the Hawks move to 3-6-3 and 2-5-3 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the Ravens now stand at 6-5-2 and 5-5-1 in league play. The last time Saint Anselm beat Franklin Pierce was Oct. 26, 1990, when the Hawks were victorious 1-0. The win snapped a 25 game unbeaten streak by the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce jumped on the board first at 38:24 when Aya Noguchi jumped on a loose ball at the top of the box and booted it into the left post before it caromed into the net.
The Hawks answered back in the second half at 71:45 when Meagan Simon (Stratford, Conn.) crossed the ball in front of the net, finding Millet, who shot it into the right side past Raven goalkeeper Katie Weldon.
Millet scored her second goal of the night and the game-winning goal just over four minutes later at 75:58. Lindsay Johnson (Hooksett, N.H.) sent a cross from the right side towards Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.), in the middle of the box, who one-timed the ball off her heel towards Millet, on the left, who kicked it into the left side.
The Ravens had a chance to tie at 85:25 when Franklin Pierce's Megan Raposa was all alone mid-box about to shoot, before Kelli Duggan (South Easton, Mass.) came in from behind and made a slide tackle to break up the play.
Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) made three saves in the victory, while Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Casey Edward made four.
Saint Anselm held the 21-12 advantage in shots with Jackie McEvoy (Spring, Texas), Jenna Szostak (Carver, Mass.) and Oldfield each taking three.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Adelphi University in a 1 p.m. matchup.
