Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Outlasted by Merrimack, 3-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) scored one goal for the Hawks, but that would not be enough as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to Merrimack College, 3-1, Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Hawks drop to 2-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in Northeast-10 play, while the Warriors improve to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Merrimack was first to score just under four minutes into the game, at 3:58, when Katie Bresciani, on the left, passed the ball across the top of the box to Laura Sprang, who shot it straight into the right side past Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.).

The Warriors would then make it a 2-0 game when Bresciani forced a Saint Anselm turnover and netted the ball into the lower right side of the net past Primera.

The Hawks jumped on the board in the 32nd minute when Oldfield sent a direct kick from the top right corner of the box into the upper-left corner of the net, pushing Saint Anselm within one.

With 3:10 left in the game, Merrimack netted its third goal of the night when Jenn Pino sent a feed through the box past all Saint Anselm defenders to Bresciani, who beat the one-on-one with Primera and recorded her fifth point of the contest.

Primera made eight saves in the loss, while Merrimack goalkeeper Nicole Curtis stopped five shots to earn the victory.

Merrimack held a 21-16 edge in shots. For the Hawks, Oldfield took seven shots, while teammate Amy Millet (Lancaster, Mass.) took four.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. when they play host to top-ranked Saint Rose on Melucci Field.
