MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) led the Hawks with three goals as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team beat Assumption College, 5-2, Saturday afternoon on Melucci Field for senior day.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-7-4 overall and 3-6-4 in Northeast-10 play, while the Greyhounds drop to 4-9-3 and 3-7-3 in league play.
The Hawks were first to score at 20:10 when Jackie McEvoy (Spring, Texas) gathered up a loose ball that was originally saved after an Oldfield shot and passed it off to Jenna Szostak (Carver, Mass.), on the left side. Szostak snuck the ball into the right side of the net past Assumption goalkeeper Allison Bruder to break it open, 1-0.
The Greyhounds answered back at 40:01 when Justine DiDonato took off on a breakaway at midfield and dribbled down the field, around Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) and sent the ball into the open right side of the net.
Two minutes into the second half Saint Anselm's Callie Millet (Lancaster, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season to put the Hawks ahead 2-1. Oldfield sent another shot on net that was saved by Bruder and Millet gathered up the escaped save and shot it into the empty right side.
At 70:52 Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.) served in a pass, from the left side, to Oldfield, who broke free from the pack and lobbed a shot into the net just under the crossbar, extending the lead to two.
Assumption scored its second goal of the game at 72:35 when Molly Kessler dished the ball into the box from the right side to Lindsey Miller, who took advantage of an open net and cut the Hawk lead to one.
Oldfield struck again at 74:57 when she headed a pass from McEvoy into the top-right side of the net, grazing the underside of the crossbar.
Less than three minutes later, at 77:30, Millet sent a through ball up midfield to Oldfield, who dribbled the ball towards the goal and sent it past Bruder's right side.
Primera made five saves, while Bruder made six, including four in the first half.
Saint Anselm held a 20-11 advantage in shots.
