COLCHESTER, VT. – Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) led the Hawks with 14 kills and five digs, as the Saint Anselm College volleyball team took down Saint Michael's College, 3-1, Tuesday evening at the Ross Sports Center with set scores of 25-16, 25-16, 15-25, and 25-21.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-10 for the 2012 campaign and 3-4 in Northeast-10 play, while the Purple Knights now stand at 10-7 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The Hawks jumped out of the gate claiming the first two sets, before they gave up the third set to the Purple Knights, 25-15. In the fourth set, Saint Anselm held a steady lead at 19-17, just before the Hawks went on a 6-4 run claiming the fourth set 25-21. Lauren Oxley (Gainesville, Va.) nailed three kills in the final stretch to capture the match.
Along with Douglas, Oxley also posted double digits in kills with a career-high 12 for a .391 hitting percentage. Both Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) posted double figures in digs with 21 and 15, respectively.
In the effort, Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) dished 46 assists and added five kills and nine digs, while teammate Jenny Doder (St. Louis, Mo.) contributed nine digs as well.
Vivian Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill.) tallied nine kills with teammate Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) posting eight.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 20 as they play host to Assumption College in an 11 a.m. matchup at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
