SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) led the Hawks with 13 kills and three digs, as the Saint Anselm College volleyball team fell to American International College, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium, with set scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-10, 21-25 and 15-9.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-10 for the 2012 campaign and 2-4 in Northeast-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets stand even at 10-10 overall and 4-4 in league play.
After the match was tied up at two sets apiece, AIC broke through in the fifth set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Saint Anselm would come within two at 11-9, but four straight Yellow Jacket points, including three Caitlin Connelly kills, would seal the deal, 15-9.
Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) backed the Hawks with nine kills, 14 digs and one ace, while Jenny Doder (St. Louis, Mo.) brought 11 digs to the table.
In the effort, Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) dished 32 assists and added three kills and two aces, while teammate Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) contributed 13 digs.
Freshman Lauren Oxley (Gainesville, Va.) added seven kills, with Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) tallying 14 digs.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 16 as they travel to Saint Michael's in a 7 p.m. matchup. The next home game for the Hawks is Oct. 20 when they play host to Assumption College at 11 a.m. at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
