Second Period Resurgence Keys 7-5 Men's Ice Hockey Victory

WINCHENDON, Mass. – Exiting first period play trailing by a 4-0 margin, the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team scored six straight goals en route to a 7-5 victory over the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University Wednesday evening at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.  With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-3-1 overall and collect their first Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season (1-0-1).  The Ravens fall to 1-6-3 overall on the season and drop their second conference contest of the year (1-2-1).

Forward Sean Jenkins (Boston, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winning goal at 7:02 of the third period, forcing home a feed from linemate Mike Richard (Derry, N.H.).  The goal, his team-leading fifth goal of the season, was the Hawks fifth unanswered goal in a row. Exiting play this evening, Jenkins is tied for sixth place within the Northeast-10 Conference with five goals to his credit.

Trailing Franklin Pierce by a 4-0 margin entering the second period, the Hawks fired 23 shots on net in a four-goal middle stanza, knotting the score.  Greg Merrill's (Brighton, Mich.) fourth goal of the season at 5:41, scored on the power play, sparked three unanswered goals by the Hawks.  Johnny Daniels (Andover, Mass.), Kevin Vanous (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Tucker Mullin (Andover, Mass.) each converted their third goal of the season, tying the game and setting up what would become the decisive third period.

Vanous scored his second goal of the game at 1:57 of the third period, giving the Hawks their first lead of the night.  Following Jenkins' goal in addition to the Ravens fifth goal of the game, Richard scored his second goal of the season at 13:49 of the third period, placing Saint Anselm ahead by a 7-5 margin.

Several Hawks recorded multiple-point games, including Liam McKillop (New York, N.Y.), who assisted the game-tying and go-ahead goals.  Joey Agliato (Hauppauge, N.Y.) added two assists of his own while Richard concluded the game with a goal and an assist.  Vanous recorded his second-straight three-point game by scoring two goals and an assist for three points (2-1=3).

For the Ravens, Sean Dunn scored two goals in the first period, including a goal only 38 seconds into the game.  Roscoe Sweeney added his second goal of the season at 9:09 of the first period while Michael Carr scored on the power play at 11:40 to increase the Franklin Pierce lead to four goals.  Carr added his second marker of the game at 8:25 of the third period, temporarily drawing the Ravens to within one goal prior to Richard's late insurance tally.

Saint Anselm goaltender Robert Kang remains undefeated on the season, collecting his fourth victory by turning aside 11-of-16 shots on goal.  Ravens netminder Dave O'Brien halted 39-of-46 shots on net, drawing his second loss of the season.
