ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior Amanda Brahm (Marlborough, Conn.), sophomore Katherine Morrissey (Sturbridge, Mass.) and freshman Nicole Wilcox each won two matches as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory at the College of Saint Rose in its season opener Saturday morning.
The Hawks start off the year 1-0 both on the season and in conference play, while the Golden Knights fall to 1-1, 1-1.
Brahm won her No. 2 singles match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, against Erin Reeg. Brahm then teamed up with sophomore Alexandra Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I.) to beat Jennifer Crego and Reeg in No. 1 doubles play, 9-7. Lawrence lost to Crego in No. 1 singles action, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.
Morrissey captured her No. 3 singles match against Stephanie Wilhem, 6-1, 6-1, while Wilcox defeated Lauren Romine, 6-4, 6-2. Morrissey and Wilcox then joined forces to topple Wilhelm and Romine in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Freshman April Regan downed Sarah Klein, 8-6, in No. 6 singles action.
The Hawks return to action Sunday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. when they face Le Moyne College.
