New Haven Charges Past Women's Soccer 1-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Despite a four save performance from Saint Anselm College women's soccer goaltender Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.), the Hawks fell to the Chargers of the University of New Haven by a 1-0 final Saturday afternoon.  With the victory, New Haven improves both their overall record (4-3) and their Northeast-10 Conference record (3-3).  The Hawks fall to 1-5-1 overall and to 1-4-1 within the conference.

The lone goal for either side came at 24:01 of the first half as Amber Simms scored an unassisted tally for the Chargers.  Simms led the Chargers with two shots on goal and also drew a yellow card late in the contest.  For the Hawks, forward Emily Rooney (Quincy, Mass.), back Jillian DaSilva (East Taunton, Mass.) and forward Teresa Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) each recorded a shot on goal.

Primera turned aside four-of-five shots on net for the Hawks but drew her fifth loss of the season.  Kim Taylor, the goalkeeper for the Chargers, halted all three shots on goal to collect the win.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 28 as they host the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
