MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team posted a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Dolphins of Le Moyne College Saturday morning at Melucci Field. The Hawks collect their first victory of the season, improving to 1-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 within conference play. The Dolphins fall to 2-4 overall with a 1-4 conference record.
Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) potted both goals for Saint Anselm in the contest. The first goal, only 2:04 into the game, came following a Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.) header. Teresa Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) carried the headed ball up the right side of the field and crossed it into the box where Oldfield forced the ball past Dolphins goaltender Felicia Tynan.
Oldfield struck again at 69:07 of the second half. Following a scrum inside the goal crease, the ball was sent back by a Le Moyne defender to Jessica Ewald (Smithtown, N.Y.). Ewald, near midfield, fired the ball into the box where it struck a Le Moyne defender in the back. Collecting the ricochet, Oldfield maneuvered through heavy crease traffic and blasted a shot past Tynan for her second goal of the game and her third tally of the season.
Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) collected her first collegiate victory and shutout, turning aside both shots on goal that she faced. Tynan turned aside four-of-six shots on goal and drew the loss.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Sept. 20 as they travel to Stonehill College to take on the Skyhawks in a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
