MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to the Warriors of Merrimack College by a 2-1 final score Wednesday afternoon on Melucci Field. With the victory, the No. 18 ranked team in Division II (according to the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll) improved to 5-0-0 on the season and to 3-0-0 within the Northeast-10 Conference. The Hawks drew their third loss of the season and fall to 0-3-1 overall on the season and to 0-2-1 within conference play.
Saint Anselm struck first 17:06 into the match as Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) registered her first goal of the season. Forward Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.) had a corner kick and sent the ball from right to left towards the goal. Within the box, Amy Millet (Lancaster, Mass.) one-touched the ball to Oldfield who fired the ball into the center of the goal for Saint Anselm's first marker of the game.
Sami Brady scored the game-tying goal at 41:04 of the first period. A loose ball in the box was forced home past lunging goaltender Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) for the tying goal. The game-winning goal was scored by Jenna Zechner 1:03 into the second half. Sarah Coakley fired a blast on goal that was knocked down by Primera, but the rebound was forced home by Zechner for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Merrimack goaltender Kiley Horne turned aside three-of-four shots on goal, collecting her fifth victory of the season. Primera made six saves on eight shots and drew the loss.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17 as they will host the Dolphins of Le Moyne College in a 11:00 a.m. tilt at Melucci Field.
