Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Suffers 17-4 Loss to Merrimack

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Ryan McQuaid (Scarborough, Maine) scored his first two goals of the season and classmate James Brine (Burlington, Mass.) netted the first of his career, but the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Merrimack College, 17-4, Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks drop to 2-11 on the season, including 2-7 in Northeast-10 play, with the Warriors improve to 9-5, 6-4 NE-10.

Trailing 8-0 with 8:19 remaining in the second quarter, McQuaid received a feed from freshman Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I.) and scored just his second career goal to get the Hawks on the board.

Merrimack then led 15-1 with 7:45 to go in the third quarter when junior Alex Vinciguerra (Canton, Mass.) scored on an extra-man opportunity. Brine followed by finding the back of the net for the first time in his career, taking a pass from Messner on the extra-man opportunity to make it 15-3 with 3:01 to play in the third.

The Warriors opened the fourth quarter with their 16th goal before McQuaid scored at the 10:21 mark to make it 16-4.

Senior goalkeeper Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) made nine saves, while Connor Reagan stopped four first-half shots before Sean Payne came on at the break and recorded 10 saves.

Merrimack scored on half of their shots, as they outshot Saint Anselm, 34-28, and also won 16 of the 24 faceoffs. The Warriors were 3-for-7 with the man advantage, while the Hawks were 2-for-5.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. when they play host to American International College at Grappone Stadium on Senior Day.
