Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Franklin Pierce for 9-4 Victory

RINDGE, N.H. – Senior Ryan Henry (Norwood, Mass.), sophomore Daniel Sullivan (Rumford, R.I.) and freshman Tim Glynn (Suffield, Conn.) each scored two goals as the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team earned a 9-4 victory against Franklin Pierce University on Friday afternoon at Sodexo Field.

The Hawks improve to 2-9, including 2-6 in Northeast-10 play, while the Ravens fall to 3-9, 1-8 NE-10.

Glynn, Henry and freshman Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I.) all scored to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead after one quarter. Henry added his second of the day just 1:22 into the second quarter before Franklin Pierce jumped on the board with an extra-man tally to make it 4-1.

Sullivan and Glynn then scored six seconds apart at the 5:39 and 5:33 marks, respectively, to open up a five-goal lead. The Ravens added a goal with 4:07 to play in the first half to head into the break trailing 6-2.

The Hawks carried their momentum into the second half as Sullivan and junior Travis Killeen (Pittsfield, Mass.) found the back of the net to go on top by six. The Ravens would score the final goal of the third and the first goal of the fourth to cut it to 8-4, but junior Michael DeVita (Annandale, N.J.)  scored with 5:56 remaining in the contest to seal the win.

Senior goalkeeper Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) matched a season high with 17 saves, while Tim Izzo stopped 11 shots in the first 48-plus minutes for the Ravens and Shea Campbell recorded a pair of saves in relief.

Franklin Pierce lost despite outshooting Saint Anselm, 44-31, and winning 10 of the 15 faceoffs. Both teams were a combined 2-for-15 on extra-man opportunities.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, April 26 at 4 p.m. when they play host to NYIT at Grappone Stadium.
