Manchester, NH (February 3, 2011) - SNHU came out firing on all cylinders as Greg DeSantis knocked down two concecutive 3 point shots to open the contest at the Southern New Hampshire Field House. The crosstown rival game lived up to its reputation as both teams clearly came to play at the highest level of intensity.
Allen Harris put the Hawks on the scoreboard with a drive ending in a basket and drew a foul. Both teams traded baskets but SNHU kept the fire power and led at the half 32-20. Saint Anselm came back after half time with the first strike as Jack Keough (Owego, NY) drove the lane and was fouled. He made both foul shots to start the scoring in the second half.
The second half was fast, physical and intense, as is fitting with this long standing rivalry. One very key factor in the SNHU victory was the fact that they held Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, CT) to a total of 11 points and 6 rebounds. Another key factor was at the free throw line where SNHU was 17-25 and Saint Anselm was 7-13.
Saint Anselm is now 11-5 in the NE-10 and 15-5 overall. The Hawks will take on Merrimack on Saturday at Saint Anselm College's Stoutenburgh Arena.
