Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

#12 Bowdoin Squeaks by Saint Anselm 6-5

Manchester, NH (February 19, 2011) – Jim Toomey (Billerica, MA) scored two power play goals and assisted on another Saint Anselm score, but it was not enough as the Hawks fell to #12 Bowdoin College 6-5 at Sullivan Arena Friday night.  Colin Downey (East Sandwich, MA) also scored twice for the visitors including the game-winner, an empty net goal with a little more than a minute remaining.  Coleman Noonan (Norfolk, MA) would bring the Hawks back within a goal 30 seconds later, but Saint Anselm could not come up with the game-tying tally.

It was a back-and-forth contest throughout between the ECAC East/NESCAC rivals. Saint Anselm led by margins of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2, before Bowdoin took their first lead at 4-3 on a score by Aaron O'Callahan (Glencoe, IL).  The Polar Bears also held a 5-4 lead prior to the empty netter that accounted for the final difference.

Both sides entered the contest looking to stop extended losing streaks. Saint Anselm had lost three straight coming off a five game unbeaten streak.  Bowdoin, meanwhile, had recorded a 0-4-1 record in their past five games.  The win snaps the Polar Bears bad stretch and improves them to 14-7-1 overall and 10-7-1 in the NESCAC with just one game remaining prior to playoffs.  Saint  Anselm falls to 10-10-2 overall and 7-9-2 in the ECAC East.

The Hawks wrap up their ECAC East/NESCAC conference schedule tomorrow with a 3:00pm game against the Colby Mules.  Saint Anselm's final regular season contest comes against Northeast-10 foe Stonehill College Thursday night, February 25, 2011.
