Rindge, NH (February 12) - Saint A's forced Franklin Pierce to postpone reaching their 20th win for the season by defeating the Ravens 56-52 on Saturday. Although Franklin Pierce was enjoying a nine game winning streak, they looked right past the Hawks in going for their 20th win, which proved to be a bad mistake.
Megan Howard (Saint Paul, MN) scored yet another double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds on the day. Epiphany Smith tallied 19 points and Brianna Jones (White Plains, NY) hauled down 10 rebounds.
The first 12 minutes of the game were tightly contested and led to a 16-16 tie. Saint Anselm then scored 6 straight points to take the lead at 22-16. The Hawks then took a 31-25 lead to the locker room.
Saint Anselm came out of the locker room determined and firing on all cylinders. The Hawks extended the lead to 10, leading 43-33 with 13:02 left. They then added 7 more to take the lead to 50-35.
An 8 point run capped by a 3 point shot by Marielle Giraud gave the look of a possible comeback, but Saint Anselm sealed the win with completing free throws in the stretch. The Hawks took home a 58-54 win over the Ravens.
The Hawks return home to Stoutenburgh Arena on Wednesday, February 16 to face Stonehill. Game time is 5:30 pm.
