Volleyball Battles Warriors To 3-1 Victory


MANCHESTER, N.H. -
The Saint Anselm College volleyball team defeated the Warriors of Merrimack College by a 3-1 margin Tuesday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.  With the victory, the Hawks improve to 8-16 overall and to 3-10 in Northeast-10 Conference play.  Merrimack falls to 4-21 overall on the season and to 1-12 in conference matches.

Saint Anselm captured the victory in four sets, posting 25-22, 25-15, 11-25 and 25-22 decisions overall.  The Hawks have now won the first set in each of their last four contests and seven out of their last nine games.

Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) led the Hawks in kills with 11 to her credit, including a match-high five kills in the decisive fourth set.  Tencza also added a service ace alongside four first-set kills.  Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) posted 31 assists cumulatively on the match and also contributed defensively with seven total digs while tying a career-high with four total blocks to her credit. Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) tied her season-high total of nine digs following a switch to the back line.

Other offensive highlights for the Hawks included Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) who came off the bench to record a team-best six kills in the third set.  Kylie Kozlowski (Quincy, Mass.) led the team with two service aces to her credit, placing her second overall on the team this season with 22 service aces.

For the Warriors, Shaunda Forcier led the team in digs and kills, posting nine of each.  Brianna Trabucco served as Merrimack's primary setter, assisting 25 of the Warriors 37 kills.  Jenna Reilly contributed two service aces while Nicole Duarte led the team with three total blocks.

The Hawks conclude their season with two home contests, including a 7:30 p.m. contest against Adelphi on Friday, Nov. 4 and a Senior Day matinee against Pace beginning at 12:00 p.m.
