Late Goal Lifts #8 Saint Rose To 2-1 Victory

ALBANY, N.Y. - Despite an early goal by Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.), the Saint Anselm Hawks women's soccer team fell to the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose by a 2-1 margin Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field.  With the victory, the number eight ranked Golden Knights improve to 11-0-1 overall and possess an 8-0-1 record within the Northeast-10 Conference.  The Hawks drop to 1-8-2 overall on the season and fall to 1-6-2 within the conference.

Oldfield scored her fourth goal of the season at 2:31 of the first period after jumping on a loose ball at the top of the goal crease.  Oldfield was the first player to score against Saint Rose dating back to September 11, 2011 when Danielle Quinlan scored for Southern New Hampshire University.

Only 18 seconds later, the Golden Knights evened the score at one goal apiece.  Sydney Bond scored her fourth goal of the season at 2:49 of the first half, finishing off a cross from teammate Brittany Godin breaking up the left side of the field.

Bond scored the game-winning goal at 82:18 of the second half to seal the victory for Saint Rose.  Off of a corner kick, Bond deflected a loose ball into the goal for the game-winning tally.  Christina Cuffari collected an assist on Bond's fifth goal of the season and second of the game.

Hawks goaltender Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) turned aside six-of-eight shots on goal and drew her eighth loss of the season.  Jessica Gerski collected the victory for Saint Rose, stopping two-of-three shots on net.  Saint Anselm was outshot by a 22-to-10 margin.

Saint Anselm returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 12 as they host conference-rival Bentley University in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Grappone Stadium.
